Saturday
Saturday—
The day after Friday yet the day before Sunday.
Saturday
represents the middle, the process, the hurt, the grief, the waiting season.
Many have suffered a gruesome Friday and are desperately waiting for their Sunday to arrive but are living through a painful Saturday.
As we celebrate Good Friday today and remember the death of our Lord and Savior, let us not forget that the devil thought he had finally defeated Jesus. He was celebrating and boy was he doing his happy dance all while proclaiming total victory. He finally had “beat” him… oh, so he thought! The next day passed and nothing happened, Jesus was still dead and the hater was still celebrating and savoring his victory once more.
I want to pause here for a moment: You may find yourself in a season where everything is happening around you and nothing is happening in you. Nothing makes sense anymore and all you see is loss and failure. Perhaps some are even even celebrating your defeat... and life right now seems pretty unfair.
Saturday represents the middle, the process, the hurt, the grief, the waiting season. This may be you, stuck living a long and dreaded Saturday. A lot of your hopes and dreams have become unattainable and God's promises seems to slowly fade away. You feel as though all has been lost and you find yourself mourning for what was. However, if there’s one thing that brings me joy when I remember this sacred weekend of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday it’s this: What seemed like death and defeat with the crucifixion of Christ, was indeed part of the plan. It was necessary. Yes, all who loved Him wept and mourned, not understanding why it all had to happen the way it did. But I’ll repeat it again, it was necessary.
This is the part where we fill our hearts with hope and rest in His promises no matter how hopeless things may seem. This is where faith and logic collide. You try to make sense of it all but it just doesn’t add up. This is the day where you put your faith above your feelings. And in the midst of your sorrow, you choose to believe His Word is faithful and true and what Jesus has spoken will be fulfilled.
I don’t know what your Saturday looks like but hold on a little longer, Sunday is coming! The Bible says that something happened on the third day. There was a shift, there was movement, there was life, there was resurrection! Jesus rose from the dead! Death could not hold Him, it could not take Him down. He is Risen. This caused caos and confusion for the devil. He thought he had won, he thought he had defeated Jesus and he was left wondering why his plans had failed.
Friends, let me reassure you that his power is limited. What seems like a victory for the enemy today, will be defeat tomorrow. What may appear as a loss for you today, will be a win tomorrow. What can look like mourning and suffering today, will be a joy and victory tomorrow. Just wait, wait a little longer, Sunday is coming!
No matter what day you are experiencing today:
Day 1 (Friday): Death, loss, agony, pain, despair; Keep holding on.
Day 2 (Saturday): In waiting mode, where apparently nothing is happening, everyone is going about their merry way and you're still “stuck” in your Saturday. You don't see yourself progressing and you ask: How am I going to get through this? etc... the questions are endless and there seems to be no answers that make sense: Keep waiting, tomorrow is around the corner!
Day 3 is on its way, Resurrection Sunday is coming! Weeping may endure all night, Saturdays are notorious for mourning but joy comes in the morning and Sunday is almost here! Resurrection and restoration is on its way! What was dead will recover life, what was lost will be found. God is about to turn things around and place everything in its proper order. You may not get that answer you're looking for but you will receive peace that surpasses all understanding. He may not give you what you want, but He will certainly give you what you need. The cross is a message of hope and you’re part of His story. Trust, Believe, and Wait.. even if you’re stuck in a Saturday season, your day is coming… Sunday is coming!
Be Blessed! Be Encouraged!
