a Book Here?

Begin where you are.

The question that starts it all

You know you're carrying something. You're just not sure what to do with it yet.

Maybe it's a season you lived through. A lesson that cost you something. A teaching you keep returning to. A subject you could talk about for an hour without preparing. Pages in a journal, notes in your phone, a folder of things you started and never finished.

At some point the thought arrives: I think there might be a book here. And then it stalls, because the thought is not yet an answer.

What you still don't know

What is the actual message?

Who is it for?

Is the story the book, or does it point to something deeper?

Does this even need to become a book?

What kind of book would it be?

Where do I begin?

The premise

Before you write the book, get clear on what you're actually writing.

Having lived something meaningful does not automatically mean it belongs in a book. Sometimes the message is better served as a devotional, a Bible study, a workbook, a teaching series, a blog, a course, a podcast, or a workshop. And sometimes it really is a book.

This experience is not built to convince you that you have one. It is built to help you slow down, ask better questions, pray, reflect, and develop the idea until you can see what you are actually carrying and what form would serve it best.

This is the work before the writing.

What you'll work through

Six guided parts

01

What Are You Carrying?

Identify the recurring story, message, teaching, idea, or experience that may be asking for deeper attention.

02

What Happened… and What Did It Teach You?

Separate the events of your story from the deeper message and lessons underneath them.

03

Does This Need to Be a Book?

Examine motive, medium, readiness, stewardship, and whether a book is truly the right form.

04

Who Needs What You're Carrying?

Move beyond "everyone" and develop clarity around the actual reader you hope to serve.

05

What Kind of Book Could This Become?

Explore whether your idea is best suited for memoir, testimony-driven nonfiction, Christian living and teaching, devotional, Bible study, workbook or guided journal, or a thoughtful blend.

06

Bring everything together into one clear working direction for what your book could become, and identify your next faithful step.

If ______ were sitting across the table from me right now, I would tell them…

An honest starting point

Not every meaningful story needs to become a book.

This experience does not begin by assuming the answer is yes. Part of the work is considering the other forms a message can take, and being willing to steward it wherever it actually belongs.

A book

A devotional

A Bible study

A workbook or journal

A teaching series

A course

A workshop

A blog or newsletter

A podcast or audio series

A social content series

More time to write and study

The goal is clarity and faithful stewardship, not forcing an idea into a book.

The Book Idea Snapshot

You won't leave with just more thoughts. You'll leave with a direction.

Across the six parts you develop the pieces of your idea one at a time. At the end, those pieces come together in a single working document built entirely from your own answers.

Take your time

This isn't designed to be rushed. Some exercises come easily. Others may ask for prayer, Scripture study, old journals, or returning another day.

Writing a book requires more than an idea. It requires a willingness to develop it.

Who this is for

This may be for you if…

You've been thinking about writing a book but don't know where to begin.

You have a testimony or life experience but don't know what the larger message is.

You have pages of notes, journals, teachings or ideas but no clear direction.

You want to serve the reader rather than simply tell a story.

You want Scripture to shape the message rather than simply decorate it.

You aren't sure what kind of Christian nonfiction book you're actually writing.

You want to discern before rushing into publishing.

You're willing to slow down and do thoughtful developmental work.

Setting expectations

This is author development, not a publishing course.

So you know exactly what you are and are not buying, here is what sits outside the scope of this experience.

A note from Landy

I didn't begin with a perfectly developed book idea. I began by writing.

Before I became a published author, I started with a blog. For a couple of years, writing those thoughts helped me develop my voice, recognize the themes I kept returning to, and understand what I was actually carrying.

This guide grew out of that journey, and out of walking alongside other writers as they worked through the stories, messages, ideas, titles, structure and direction they were carrying.

Starting small doesn't mean you're thinking small. Sometimes starting small is how we learn to steward something well.

Questions

Before you decide

No. It is specifically designed for people who sense they may have a story, message, teaching or idea worth developing but need greater clarity about what it could become.

You don't have to have the whole book figured out.

You just need enough clarity to take the next faithful step.
